Twenty participants between the ages of 18 and 55 were accepted into the program at the beginning of May 2009.  Each of them are participating in employability skills, through the North Coast Career Resource Centre, and living skills and certified training with Hecate Strait Training Centre.

 

while in Training, participants also have assisted the 50th Anniversary All Native Basketball Tournament in being a HUGE success.

 

Criteria for this program was: 

• Unemployed, non-EI client, or employed, low skilled
• Be legally entitled to work in Canada
• Lack skills required for successful integration into new employment
• Live in Prince Rupert area
• Be ready and committed to returning to work

 

Participants may be eligible to receive:

•  Class-based skill development - including job searching and career planning
• Funding to access training at local educational institutions or trainers
• Income support for the duration of the in-class training
• Targeted wage subsidy for on-the-job training
